Jay J. Haggerty

As a partner, my current practice is focused primarily in the areas of Estate Planning, Guardianships, Probate Estate and Trust Administration as well as Will and Trust Contests.

My father Jay B. Haggerty and Uncle Judson F. Haggerty founded the law firm Haggerty and Haggerty in 1955. My mother Rita worked was a Court Reporter for several well regarded judges and on many high profile cases. She was later promoted to Court Administrator of the Marion County Probate Court.

As an undergraduate, I attended Indiana University Bloomington after graduating from Southport High School. I later transferred to Indiana University in Indianapolis in order to be closer to my family and to work during my college attendance. I married my wife, Maria, in 1983. I graduated with honors in 1985.

I enrolled in law school at the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis following my undergraduate education. As a way to earn valuable experience, I completed an internship with the Legal Services Organization of Indiana the year preceding my graduation from law school.

After law school graduation, I joined the family firm. The firm founders made me a partner in 1989 and in doing so, entrusting me with the responsibility to carry on the ethical traditions accompanying the family name.

In my experience, not only do clients want an attorney who is experienced, they also want an attorney who will take their matter to heart.  This means that the attorney truly cares about a client and his or her matter, and that the attorney will take the time to explain various aspects of the legal matter, answer client questions, and return phone calls and e-mails.

Our firm treats our clients exactly as we would expect to be treated.  This means that at all times we put the interest of our clients first, and endeavor to achieve the objectives of our clients in a cost efficient and expeditious manner.

If you are seeking a dedicated, experienced attorneys who will truly care about your matter, I would urge you to call me or one of the other members at our firm.  We’ll be happy to talk to you for a free initial phone consultation to learn about your matter.

Although, at this stage of my career, I am slowing down and I am more selective about the cases I take on, I have a wealth of experience that could be helpful to you in selecting your attorney. I encourage you to call me first when you are seeking legal services. If I can’t help you, I will likely know someone who can.
